From Stone to Sound: A Journey with Meraki

Years ago, when I was learning the finer details of carving letters into stone, we were given an assignment: to carve a word onto a piece of reclaimed Italian marble.
Some people in the group chose their house name, their own name, or that of a loved one. It took me longer to decide — I wanted a word that truly resonated with me.
Unbelievably, for someone with mild dyslexia, I came across a word that spoke deeply to my heart: Meraki.

This Greek word means to do something with soul, creativity, and love — to put “something of yourself” into your work.
It felt so fitting, not only for how I aspired to live my life, but also as a way of honouring the beauty of the stone itself.
Little did I know then that, years later, this word would still carry such meaning in the work I now do: supporting people on their healing journeys.
During another assignment, I felt drawn to carve not just words, but a symbol too. I chose
“I Am” alongside a symbol that represents energy. Looking back, this also feels like a quiet foreshadowing of where my path was leading.
Now I work with both words and vibration. It’s all about energy — the energy we speak, the energy we think, the energy that surrounds us. We are, after all, energetic beings, constantly shaped by what we choose to engage with inside ourselves and what we welcome from our environment.
There is so much I could share about this, but I’ll leave space for you to reflect on your own experience.
And so, back to Meraki. Imagine if this were the ethic we all lived by. Imagine how our world might feel if everything — our work, our relationships, our creativity, our care for one another — was infused with soul, love, and authenticity.
At Mahu, this is the heart of my work — bringing Meraki into every sound, every touch, every circle I hold. My hope is that when you step into this space, you feel that same soul, creativity, and love woven through it all.
