Gathering in Circle: Why Women’s Circles Matter

ree

For as long as human beings have gathered, we have sat in circles. Around fires, under trees, in homes, temples, and sacred places — circles have been a way to share stories, wisdom, song, grief, and joy. Many Indigenous cultures still honour the circle as a way of remembering that every voice is equal, that no one sits above or below another. In the circle, we remember our belonging.

Women’s circles are a continuation of this ancient tradition. They offer us a place to pause, to exhale, and to remember who we are beneath the busyness of everyday life. In a world that often pulls us in many directions, the circle invites us back to presence, connection, and deep listening.

When we gather as women, something beautiful happens. The circle becomes a mirror — reflecting back our strength, our vulnerability, and the simple truth that we are not alone.

Here are just some of the gifts that a women’s circle can bring:

  • Belonging and Connection — In circle we are reminded that we don’t have to walk this path alone. A sense of sisterhood grows naturally as we sit together.

  • A Safe Space for Expression — You are welcome to bring your stories, challenges, triumphs, and tender places. Nothing is too small or too big.

  • The Power of Presence — Sometimes we come with words, sometimes with silence. Both are equally honoured. Simply sitting in circle is enough.

  • Growth and Self-Discovery — Through listening and sharing, new insights emerge. The circle becomes a gentle teacher, helping us to see life from fresh perspectives.

  • Emotional Support and Healing — Whether in sorrow or in joy, you are held. In silence, in nods, in shared tears or laughter, you will find companionship.

  • Empowerment and Confidence — As you are witnessed in your truth, and as you witness others in theirs, a quiet strength begins to grow.

  • Mindfulness and Presence — The circle is an intentional pause. A moment away from daily demands to return to yourself.

To hold this container with love, we make some simple agreements. These aren’t rules, but sacred threads that keep the space safe, supportive, and true.

  • Confidentiality — What is shared in circle stays in circle.

  • Respect and Non-Judgement — We listen with open hearts, not to reply, but to understand.

  • Active Listening — We offer our full presence, without interrupting or advising.

  • Speaking Our Truth — We share from our own hearts, in our own way, knowing silence is also welcome.

  • No Fixing or Rescuing — We trust each woman’s inner wisdom to guide her path.

  • Come As You Are — You are welcome in your wholeness — joys, struggles, silence, and all.

My hope for every circle is simple: that it becomes a place where you can breathe more deeply, feel more yourself, and remember the quiet power of being witnessed just as you are.

I will be holding local in-person women’s circles here near Totnes, South Devon, and for those who are further away, I will also be offering online circles so that this connection is open to all who feel called.

If this stirs something in your heart, you are so welcome to join.
