Walking with Integrity – In Life and in My Work

Every day I walk my dog along the River Dart, a place of great beauty and a source of deep nourishment for me. This river runs through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and I feel incredibly lucky to have it on my doorstep. Yet with that blessing comes a responsibility.
As I walk, I often come across litter, sometimes left by people, sometimes washed downriver from boats or towns further upstream. I can’t walk past it. It doesn’t feel right. So, every day, I pick it up. I do this to stop it being carried out to sea, where it could injure marine life or add to the growing tide of pollution.
I’ll be honest, there are days when it feels disheartening. The relentlessness of it, the sense that some members of our community don’t seem to care. But for me, integrity is about walking my talk, even when it feels hard. Even when no one is watching. Even when it seems like my actions are just a drop in the ocean. Because those small, consistent choices matter.
This is the same way I approach my work with Mahu. Integrity is at the heart of everything I do:
I create calm and supportive spaces for healing, where people can feel held and heard without judgement.
I choose my instruments and the methods I use with the upmost care, listening to my inner guidance for what feels authentic and aligned for each session.
I am always transparent and truthful, because trust is the foundation of healing.
I uphold the highest confidentiality and respect my clients' choices and differences.
I always hold my client's highest good as my intention when working.
For me, integrity is not just a value, it’s a way of being. It shows up in the way I care for the land, the river, the animals I meet, and the people I work with. Just today, I found a Slow Worm https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife-explorer/reptiles/slow-worm near the river after very heavy rain. I gently picked it up and relocated it back safely on the bank in the grassland.
I believe that when we live with integrity, even in small ways, it ripples outward. Just as the river carries everything downstream, so too do our choices flow into the wider world.
Perhaps you’d like to reflect: Where does integrity show up in your life? What are the small but powerful choices you make each day that help you feel aligned with your values?
With love,
Fay x
